Family waits for answers after Mark's on-field collapse

ONE minute, you're watching your son playing the game he loves.

The next, you are watching, waiting, biding time in a hospital ward, desperate for answers.

That is Sue Hubner's plight at the moment.

But even as she watches her son, Mark, undergo test after test, and waits for any bit of information about why he collapsed on the football field at the weekend, her thoughts are with thanking those who probably saved his life.

Yesterday, Mrs Hubner gave a heartfelt message of gratitude, via The Daily Mercury, to the players of both clubs, first aid officers, coaches and management, as well as the ambulance officers and hospital staff who have helped Mark.

The talented 20-year-old collapsed on the field while playing for Whitsunday Brahmans at Leprechaun Park in Sunday's reserve-grade game against Brothers.

He received CPR for about 20 minutes on the field.

"We're just really thankful for everyone who helped out," Mrs Hubner told the Daily Mercury.

"He's (Mark) doing good and he's got a lot of support from the club as well."

Mrs Hubner, who has not left her son's side, said although he was doing well in Townsville Hospital they were waiting on test results to see what had caused him to collapse.

"We probably won't find out until the end of the week," she said.

Mark posted on the club's Facebook page: "Thanks for everyone's wishes. I'll be fine".

His fellow players offered their support in response to their mate.
