Our region's volunteers make for a richer community

THEY'RE the heart of any community - and yet so often we just take them for granted.

We're talking volunteers - the people who run our emergency rescue organisations, the people who operate our op shops, the people who help out at our entertainment centre and at our library - people from all walks of life helping out.

Wherever you look you'll find a volunteer.

Without them our community would be a heck of a lot worse off.

Just imagine if you had a bush fire threatening your property and there wasn't a rural fire brigade ready to deal with the flames.

Imagine that floodwaters had isolated your property and you had no way of getting out, that the SES volunteers could not be there to help you out.

There are so many other areas where volunteers are the backbone of community life.

It's time to honour these wonderful people who are so generous with their time and effort.

Consider also if you too could become a volunteer and help out many others.
