Volleyroos face an uphill battle

BUNDY boy Tom Edgar and his Aussie Volleyroos face an uphill run to the quarter-finals after they were beaten in three sets by Bulgaria in the men's volleyball competition at Earls Court overnight.

The Volleyroos managed to lead during every set, but the more experienced Bulgarian side over-ran them to win 25-23, 25-21, 25-22.

The Australians led 8-1 at one stage in the second set, but blew the lead when put under pressure from the world number nine side.

The loss puts them in the position of having to win their final two matches against two top sides to advance to the quarter finals.

Standing in their way will be sixth-ranked Italy and world number three side Poland.
