Violence rates, homelessness high in CQ

ROCKHAMPTON has unusually high numbers when it comes to domestic violence cases.

There are also worrying statistics regarding homelessness.

With around one in five Australian women and one in 20 Australian men having experienced violence at the hands of an intimate partner, it appears Rockhampton may exceed those numbers.

Rockhampton police report the regions rate of domestic violence incidents are much higher than the state average.

With Rockhampton domestic violence rates sitting 141% higher than average, it was found North Rockhampton had the second highest rate of domestic violence incidents in Queensland.

Not only does Rockhampton have high rates when it comes to domestic violence, but it also found homelessness to be a concern.

Around 476 people within Rockhampton are currently homeless. A major contributor to these homelessness rates is unemployment, with 7% of the region being out of work.
