A CROWD of onlookers have miraculously freed a schoolgirl in Ireland after she was dragged almost 50m by a tram.

The teenager was screaming in agony, trying to free herself while her leg was caught underneath a carriage.

The Irish Mirror reports the woman was running for a bus with a bag full of books when she tripped on to the tracks as the tram hurtled towards her.

Once the driver stopped the tram, dozens of passengers rushed out of the emergency exist, pushing the tram enough for the girl to free her leg.

It follows a similar incident in Perth that made worldwide headlines after a man had his leg trapped by a train.
