A DOG has survived a life and death battle with a deadly brown snake.

The plucky dog took on the snake after it slithered into a Kingsthorpe property.

The owners called in snake catcher Dave Wiedman to wrangle the reptile.

It was his second call-out for a snake in under 20 minutes.

When he grabbed the snake by its tail he noticed the snake had bite marks on it.

"It looks like something has been chewing on him," he said.

The owner confirmed their deerhound had been brawling with the snake.

"I'll have to go check if she's actually still alive," the dog's owner said.

The Chronicle understands the dog survived the fight.

Mr Wiedman said he kept the snake under observation overnight.
