CYCLISTS are forced to endure road rage from motorists on a regular basis.

But fortunately, the driver isn't normally wielding a knife!

A confrontation between a Western Australian driver and a cyclist following a minor collision has been captured on camera.

The video, posted to the Search for YOUR REG YouTube account, shows the driver of a white 4WD with a Western Australia number plate overtaking the rider, who has a helmet cam.

After crossing the double line and driving down the opposite side of the road, the 4WD appears to clip the bike.

The car stops in the middle of the roundabout, zooms ahead and then parks.

What happens next is truly disturbing.

The driver emerges, with a knife in hand, waving it at the cyclist.

The cyclist is forced to abandon his bike on the road and retreat.

After a few moments, the other man returns to the car and drives off.

"This rather charming gentleman got a $1500 fine for this armed unprovoked road rage attack on a cyclist," the caption reads.

The cyclist has been identified as a 45-year-old father who was on his way home from work, Nine News reported.

A caption at the start of the video explains the cyclist had been forced to deal with a number of drivers desperate to get in front of him.

"This particular day saw an unusual number of 'must get in front' attempts at intersections and roundabouts,'' the caption said.

"I was able to fend off most with a strong position and, if necessary, a slight sudden movement further out.

"Drivers almost always get the message with that.

"Not this one though!"
