VIDEO: Bechtel shows latest progress on Curtis Island
BECHTEL has released a video showing the latest progress on the LNG plants on Gladstone's Curtis Island.
The state's LNG production is set to quadruple by the end of the year as an additional three production trains are built on the island.
Bechtel Gladstone general manager Kevin Berg said there was gas on all three of the projects, and gas turbines also had been fired on all three projects so they were self-sustaining for producing electricity.
"This is really important because we're not longer dependent on just diesel generator sets for power," Mr Berg said.
"The firing up of these gas turbine generators is a major milestone in the commissioning of the start-up of the operating plants themselves."
The QCLNG plant has an operational train and has been exporting LNG since late last year, and will have a second train operational by the end of the year.
Mr Berg said the other two plants - GLNG and APLNG - were not far off production.
"We'll have four trains producing by the end of 2015," he said.
"This will leave two more trains to be commissioned on the two remaining projects in 2016."
