Victor inspires a Magic win
NETBALL: Magic's Kate Victor's 45 goals from 53 attempts inspired her team to a 50-30 win against Valleys in the A2 Gladstone Netball Association grand final win.
Victor was head and shoulders above her opponents and was clearly the difference between the two teams.
Valleys' Emma Small did all she could at the other end and was awarded the game's most valuable player trophy.
Magic skipped to a 30-11 lead at half-time before Valleys made some inroads into the deficit during the third quarter.
Goals to Small and Brie Simpson made it 38-21 at three-quarter-time.
Magic's defender Maddy Francisco says the game was much harder than what the end scores indicated.
"It was definitely a battle and we tried throughout the season to come out on top,” Francisco said.
The athletic defender said both Small and Simpson were a handful.
"They are both really good shooters, but Kate Victor was the go-to woman for us,” Francisco said.
It was an extra special day for her team-mates Hannah Webb and captain Georgie Schluter because they played in two flags, same day, but in two different codes.
The pair led Central Black to a 3-0 soccer premiership win against Central Cougars earlier in the day.
