Veteran basketball player has the best life balance

TRAVELLING from the Boyne Valley to Monto for work and to Gladstone for training may be a big commitment, but according to Blair Smith it's all worth it for the lifestyle balance his family has found in Builyan.

The veteran basketball player, 41, moved to the region six years ago to take over a player-coach role with the Gladstone Phoenix Group CQ Power, formerly Port City Power.

At a staggering 203cm tall, the Power forward has had stints playing on courts in Europe and in the NBL.

Blair said he was happy to still be playing at a high level and was proud of the improvements his side had made over the years.

"It's something I'm very passionate about," he said.

Blair stumbled across the Boyne Valley while working for Queensland Basketball, based in Yeppoon.

"For our kids it's a nice lifestyle," Blair said, of moving to Builyan four years ago. "It's so social out here."

The primary school teacher has two children with wife Rebecca - Brayden, 7, and Marleigh, 3.
