A NISSAN Patrol wagon was engulfed in flames on Sunday morning on the Bruce Highway.

Gladstone Police were called to the scene at 9.35am.

The owner of the vehicle is a 35-year-old man from Brisbane, who was on his way to Turkey Beach.

The man was not injured in the incident.

It is believed there were issues with the battery in the vehicle, and it caught on fire.

The highway was closed for 20 minutes then traffic was diverted by police through one lane.
