Valleys sink to lowly Yaralla

TABLE-topper Biloela Valleys suffered a surprise loss at the hands of second-last team Yaralla in their Football Gladstone first division men’s game on Saturday afternoon.

The usually dominant Valleys didn’t play well away from home, falling to a 3-1 defeat.

In Boyne Island an uneventful first half turned into a goal-fest in the second as BTFC overran a 10-man Central squad.

Boyne Tannum rallied from 1-0 down to score five times during the second half, while keeping Central scoreless.

BTFC coach Grant Nicholson wasn’t impressed with his team’s first-half performance.

Every choice his players made in Central’s half during the first 40 minutes was the wrong one, Nicholson said.

But improved linking play in the second brought results as the Central defence fell apart.

The two teams were on equal points heading into the encounter.

However, the BTFC win has moved the combined-towns team to one point behind Valleys on the leader board.

Dominic Tanner returned to form, scoring a hat-trick despite battling niggling injuries.

Meanwhile, Clinton’s win against last-placed United moved it just ahead of Central into third position.

Clinton player/coach Neil Hamilton was content with the team’s performance.

“We’re still not playing real great but I guess we can’t complain,” he said.

Central-midfielder Andrew Robinson had another strong game, as did forward Chris McClintock.

“McClintock has only played a few games up front but he’s learning every game and becoming a lot stronger,” Hamilton said.
