HYUNDAI is launching an out-out offensive with the new i30 to be launched late this month priced from $20,950.

That's a reduction of $500 on the outgoing base model, but when the new Hyundai i30 arrives it will come standard with equipment which will have the tech-savvy salivating - including and integrated satnav system with eight-inch touch screen, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and digital radio.

Automatic versions of the base Active will start from $23,250.

Key competition still comes from sister company Kia with its Cerato ($19,990 drive-away), as well as the Mazda3 Neo ($20,490), Toyota Corolla Ascent ($20,190) and the Volkswagen Golf 92TSI ($22,840).

Early drives of overseas left-hand drive offerings have lauded the new i30 for its dexterity.

The new 2.0-litre petrol engine develops 13kW more power and 28Nm more torque than the 1.8-litre MPi engine it replaces.

Other additions to the new i30 Active specification over the outgoing GD Active include 16-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, automatic headlights, hill-start assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

"We have built outstanding quality and value into the new i30, not just at the entry level but across the range,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer, JW Lee.

"Quality is what buyers demand and expect, and it is inherent in the new i30, its refinement, comfort, handling, performance, safety and practicality. In all of these respects, along with its superb design, we believe the new Hyundai i30 is competitive with the very best in the class from a product perspective, while simultaneously extending Hyundai's value leadership.”
