Up to four cyclones could hit the Coral Sea

WE could expect up to four cyclones in the coming season, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Adam Blazak forecaster said the official cyclone outlook comes out in October.

"Looking at sea surface temperature... it'll be an average to slightly above average cyclone season for the Coral Sea," he said.

"Looking at early stages there will be neutral La Nina conditions for this coming cyclone season."

Mr Blazak said last year was an "extremely quiet" one in terms of cyclones.

"From in our region of the coral sea there were no land crosses," he said.

"One (cyclone) in the Gulf weakened before it made landfall.

"Fiji and Vanuatu they copped a few out there."
