Unions launch legal attack on Govt
QUEENSLAND'S public sector union has launched another legal challenge against the Queensland Government for the way public servants have been sacked.
Together Secretary Alex Scott will argue the State Government unlawfully issued a directive which gave the Public Service Commission too much influence over departments and the ability to determine public service sackings.
"Generally, we say it's a matter of very serious concern for Queenslanders that the government does not understand the notion of separation of powers and has passed legislation which is unconstitutional," he said.
"We say the government is seeking to unlawfully interfere in the operations of departments through unlawful directives."
Earlier, the union launched a separate Supreme Court challenge against the Government's removal of public servant protections but it was thrown into jeopardy when legislation legalising the Government's actions was pushed through Parliament.
