Compact closes gap between indigenous people and industry
UNIONS and indigenous leaders have agreed to join forces to support the cause of the region's Goreng Goreng people.
The Queensland Council of Unions and a group of Goreng Goreng elders yesterday signed a social compact.
In a ceremony at the Grand Hotel in Gladstone, native title applicant for Port Curtis Coral Coast Nat Minniecon told the audience his fellow Goreng Goreng would benefit from the partnership, which would allow the local indigenous group to use the union's experience in the workplace.
The main issue addressed by the agreement is indigenous employment on the major projects.
