Mechatronics course offered for Transformers generation

A MECHATRONICS course offered at CQUniversity campuses is expected to attract students who have grown up with the Transformers movies and Mythbusters.

One of engineering's most youthful and vibrant disciplines, mechatronics brings together elements of mechanical, electrical, electronic and computer engineering, in order to integrate machines and their support systems.

Dean of Engineering and Technology, Professor Euan Lindsay, is expecting strong interest from young people who have grown up with the Transformers movies and Mythbusters TV show, and who are interested in 'intelligent devices'.

"People expect their washing machine to automatically wash their clothes, their car to park itself, the elevators to run efficiently, the ultrasound machine to give clear pictures of the baby," Professor Lindsay said.

"All of these only work if you can combine physical systems, computers and electronics."

Mechatronics will be an option for students at Gladstone, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Mackay campuses.
