Bachelor of Engineering offer pleases Toolooa SHS pupil

BEN Lumsden will make the most of Gladstone's opportunities with a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Central Queensland.

The Toolooa State High School student was rewarded for his hard work, receiving a first preference offer.

For Ben, this is the next step to realise his dream job.

"Going into senior I realised I liked the maths and physics side of things; I was thinking of going into a trade but then realised that I was good at this stuff so thought, why not go harder and give myself a challenge," he said.

"I got support from quite a few people at school including the teachers, but most of all my parents who have always been there for me."

Ben has a few tips for those with similar goals.

"Find out what you like and stay focused," he said.

"You have to have fun, get involved in extra curricular activities. For example, I went on the Mt Isa Xtrata Engineering camp earlier this year and it really helped me decide whether I really wanted to go with that career."
