Gladstone's under-13 softballers on a roll

THE under-13 Gladstone softball teams were impressive on Saturday at Gladstone Softball Fields.

The Jetts defeated Hurricane 5-4.

Jetts coach Joe Ludkin said the game was dominated by the pitching.

"Chyanne Downing is the No 1 pitcher for the Hurricanes," he said.

"My son Daniel pitched for the Jetts. In the last innings, Daniel had loaded bases and ended up striking the next three batters out.

"Chyanne did the same thing. She got three people out as well.

"It was really good fielding. There weren't too many mistakes."

Joe said Adam Davison fielded well on first and had a good hit, and Rachel Groves played well at second.

Rosie Stedmann had a great game on third and out on left field and was named the Jetts' best player.

In the other U13 match, Bailey Stone's home run helped the Crocs Freshies team to a 14-2 victory over the Crocs Salties.

Crocs coach and club rep Annette Tomlinson said both teams played well but Bailey, who plays for Queensland, was the standout player of the match. "He can catch, he can pitch and he hit a home run," she said.

The match marked the second fixture game for this half of the season.

"We only have four teams in the competition this year," Ms Tomlinson said. "So we always have room for more kids."
