Me and My Ride: KTM SX 250 motocross bike

TYSON Baxter's garage is full of motocross bikes.

Most of the gear is ageing, past its best and only useful for practice rides.

So Baxter has added a new bike to the long list of two-wheeled machines he has had in his lifetime: a KTM SX 250, which had its first big run at the MX Nationals at Benaraby on August 24.

Bought specifically to be raced at the MX Nationals, the bike was exactly what Baxter wanted for his racing with the Gladstone Dirt Riders and at other event around Queensland.

"I guess I am a fan of KTM. I have had a few," Baxter said.

"They have got a lot of power. You are not allowed to do mods on them."

Bought about two months ago, the bike replaces another KTM that was Baxter's race bike previously.

The 19-year-old expects his new addition will only have a short life as a race bike before it becomes a practice machine and it is replaced by another new purchase.

"I will probably get the rest of this year and next year out of it," Baxter said.

"We generally upgrade every year, then this one will be a practice bike for a year."

But with big plans to travel a lot more in the next couple of years, this KTM may hang around as a practice bike longer than usual.
