Ribs, rumps and coffee come to CBD with new businesses
THE heart of Gladstone's CBD is set to get busier, with a Coffee Club and Ribs and Rumps Restaurant opening in December.
The announcement comes days after chain Hog's Breath Cafe revealed it would open on Gladstone's main street next February.
The Coffee Club and Ribs and Rumps Restaurant developments come as part of the renovations to the Grand Hotel, which will also expand its function room.
Gladstone Regional Council deputy mayor Matt Burnett said a 10-year-old council policy was to thank for the new restaurateurs to Goondoon St.
"In the early 2000s council developed a plan for Gladstone's CBD," he said.
Mr Burnett said council outlined conditions to developers to ensure the ground floor of high-rise developments were zoned commercially.
This would encourage food retailers to set up shop in Gladstone's main street.
"We had three precincts: one surrounding the Civic Centre, another near the Grand Hotel and one on the waterfront," he said.
"If developers built in these areas they had to zone their ground floor as a commercial space."
Ribs and Rumps Restaurant will be able to seat more than 150 people, while the Hog's Breath Cafe will cater for up to 200 people.
The new Coffee Club will be the third for Gladstone, with restaurants already open at the Night Owl Centre and Tannum Sands.
Work at the site began a month ago.
Mr Burnett said he was excited about the variety of food outlets coming to town.
"We welcome any new food outlets to Gladstone," he said.
