Two iconic Gladstone businesses close their doors

AN ICONIC furniture warehouse that has sat on Hanson Rd for 14 years will close its doors for the last time within weeks.

Simply Solid Timber Furniture has slashed prices 50-70% to get rid of its stock, with owner Helen Neil saying it's "too quiet" to continue trading.

The business is holding a closing down sale with 50-70% off stock.

Ms Neil initially put off the closing down sale as she waited for her sister to arrive in Gladstone to help, but a delay in her sister's arrival has left her to manage the constant stream of bargain hunters by herself.

She said she "might close in a week, the way we're going".

The business's closing down sale comes days after the dirt bike shop across the road, Gladstone Moto-Bike Accessories, is believed to have closed its doors too.

Ms Neil, who bought the business eight years ago, said it's been particularly "dramatic in the last six month -- a dramatic change".

"People just don't have any money at the moment.

"You don't expect the town to die this much."
