Two men charged for Rockhampton hotel drug deals

TWO men charged for allegedly dealing close to a kilogram of methamphetamine and cannabis from a Rockhampton hotel room have been committed to trial in the Supreme Court of Rockhampton.

James Richard Baty, 21 and Michael James Lindenberg, 44 are charged with a combined 32 drug-related charges after police raided the Leichhardt Hotel room on August 31 last year.

Both men appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court while in custody on Tuesday, having been behind bars since being charged with the offences.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox told the court police found 865g of cannabis, 111g of methamphetamine and $5500 cash in the hotel room shared by the two men.

"It was a substantial amount of drugs," Mr Fox said

"Police have concerns (Baty) might owe money because of the large amount of drugs he was found with."

Baty's defence lawyer Pierre Lammersdorf said the charges were "in a nutshell, very serious".

Magistrate Cameron Press rejected Baty's bail application on the grounds he was an unacceptable risk of re-offending and failing to appear.

Defence lawyer Mark Platt, who represented Lindenberg, did not enter a bail application for his client.

Baty was charged with 23 offences including possessing, supplying and trafficking dangerous drugs while Lindenberg was charged with nine offences including possessing and supplying dangerous drugs.

Neither defendant entered pleas and both will appear before the Supreme Court of Rockhampton.
