Twisted car wreck found 50m into a paddock

POLICE say a man who was found trying to move a crashed vehicle onto private property was lucky to be alive.

Clifton police officer-in-charge Sergeant Guy Smidt said a 42-year-old Clifton man sustained facial injuries and cuts to his arms and legs after being involved in a car crash about 3.40pm yesterday on the Clifton Pittsworth Rd.

Sgt Smidt said the twisted wreck was about 50m into a paddock when he arrived at the scene to find the vehicle's driver in a tractor.

The crash site was between Doolan Rd and Back Plains Rd.

"He was extremely lucky to get out of it alive," Sgt Smidt said.

"He was attempting to avoid detection by removing the vehicle from the crash scene."

Sgt Smidt said a blood sample was taken from the man and he was taken to Toowoomba Hospital for treatment.

No charges were laid yesterday.

Investigations are continuing.
