THE twin brother of the man who murdered New South Wales teacher Stephanie Scott is likely to walk free from prison today.

Marcus Stanford, 25, was convicted of being an accessory after the fact, admitting he had sold Ms Scott's engagement ring after his identical twin brother Vincent raped and murdered her in April last year.

Ms Scott -- a teacher at the high school in Leeton -- was only days away from marrying her fiance when her life was taken.

She was sexually assaulted and fatally stabbed at the school on Easter Sunday.

Stanford was jailed for 15 months but is eligible to walk free from prison today with time served, ABC News reports.

During his sentencing, Justice Robert Hulme said Stanford acted out of "misguided loyalty to his brother".

"It was the act of a man who put morality and human decency secondary to the interests of his murderous brother," he said.

"I can only proceed on the basis that he knew Ms Scott had been abducted and murdered but not how, why or in what circumstances," Justice Hulme told the Leeton court.

Vincent Stanford has admitted to murdering and raping Ms Scott, and is expected to be sentenced in October.
