Twenty/20 matches please crowds
TWO matches were played in the Gladstone Premier League Homeloans Etc Twenty/20 competition on Sunday.
In the first match NFI took on Ballbreakers, who bowled first after winning the toss.
NFI was skittled for 133 off 19.1 overs, with Josh Hall top-scoring with 36 off 25 balls and Carson Jones making 26 off 24.
Justin Deserio was the pick of the Ballbreakers attack, taking 2-19 off two overs, while Tony Wroe grabbed 2-25 off three.
Ballbreakers chased down the runs easily, finishing at 134 in the 17th over to win by five wickets.
Deserio was also handy with the bat, scoring 20 off 18 balls, while Tony Wroe also hit out strongly to reach 29 off 18.
Josh Hall, with 2-15 off three overs, and Anthony Williams, with 1-6 off two, were the pick of the bowlers for NFI.
Dirty Mutts played the Presidents XI in the second game and the Mutts won the toss and elected to bowl.
Presidents XI climbed to 8-159 off 20 overs, thanks to Andrew Cirson's 39 off 30 balls and Jacob Thompson's 28 off 25.
Mark Walker took 2-8 off two overs for the Mutts, while John Van Lierop captured 1-9 off two.
It was a close chase for the Mutts, with the game going to the last over, as they scrambled to reach 9/163 to secure victory.
Peter Shepherd was by far the best batsman, belting 52 off just 17 balls, and Walker chipped in with a handy 36 off 33.
Best bowlers for Presidents XI were Joel Maudsley, who took 2-11 off three overs, and Michael Matz, with 1-14 off two.
In the other scheduled match Dieselec Devils forfeited to Gladstone Rebels.
In the major semi-final Dirty Mutts will play Gladstone Rebels, with the winner going directly to the grand final. The loser will play the winner of the minor semi-final between Presidents XI and Ballbreakers.
