IPSWICH residents have shown they have a sense of humour when it comes to being labelled 'bogans'.

Thanks to popular television show called The Bogan Hunters, the city has been thrust into the national spotlight.

As its name suggests, the show - which appears on 7mate - features a team who travel the country in search of Australia's biggest bogans.

In the latest episode the team visited the One Mile Hotel to document "the only registered bogan sport known to man: jelly wrestling".

The "sports entertainment" is held at the West Ipswich venue each Friday with performers supplied by Heavenly Angelz modelling agency.

It features a bevy of scantily-dressed women wrestling in an inflatable pool filled with jelly. On occasions the pool is also filled with chocolate.

The competition is messy, but bar manager Tony Harris said it never failed to draw customers into the pub.

"It's always a lively night and the patrons certainly enjoy it - especially if you're a bogan," he said.

"We were pleased to accommodate the Bogan Hunters with filming the segment; it gave our venue some great exposure."

Crowds gathered to watch The Bogan Hunter team as they took a "hands-on" approach to documenting the event.

There was wild applause as the series creator and star, Pauly Fenech, jumped into the pool to wrestle the girls for a few rounds.

Mr Harris said it was a great night, but was quick to defend the pub from being specifically labelled a "bogan habitat".

"We consider our venue to be a country pub located in the middle of the city," he said.

"All types of people are welcome, so long as they behave themselves."

Jelly wrestling takes place each Friday from 8pm to 9pm, following pole dancing and raffles from 6pm.
