Boat strike suspected in turtle deaths on Curtis Is, Tannum

TWO dead turtles were washed ashore on separate Gladstone beaches on Tuesday.

The Gladstone Conservation Council (GCC) recorded the first turtle death after a carcass washed ashore on Curtis Island.

Images of another dead turtle found on Tannum Sands beach also surfaced online on Tuesday.

GCC treasurer Cheryl Watson said she found a dead turtle and birds on Ocean Beach, Curtis Island about midday.

"The injuries of the turtle appear to be a boat strike, but we're not sure," Ms Watson said.

Gladstone Regional Council said no reports had been made about the deceased turtle or the birds.
