Turkey Beach the most storm-affected suburb in CQ
TURKEY Beach is central Queensland's worst storm-affected suburb over the past 12 months, according to Suncorp Insurance.
Boyne Island was the second worst storm-affected suburb.
With temperature records set to be smashed this summer and the Bureau of Meteorology predicting up to four cyclones for the state, Suncorp Insurance has revealed the region's worst storm-affected suburbs.
The figures highlight the hardest hit suburbs by the average claim cost from July 2012 to June 2013.
Suncorp Insurance spokesperson Melissa Cronin said the figures were a reminder that warmer weather could also bring sudden storms, heavy rains and cyclones.
"As we've seen all too frequently over the past five years, the summer storm season causes a lot of headaches for Queenslanders, and the past 12 months have been no different," Mrs Cronin said.
"The average cost of a storm claim in Turkey Beach was over $22,000, which just goes to show the frightening level of damage that can be caused by severe storms, and serves as a reminder to the community to get ready.
"Alarmingly, our research has found that less than half of all Queenslanders have taken the necessary steps to protect their homes following last year's storm season - a worrying statistic and something we want to change."
