Gladstone's online daters love movies and music
WE'RE pulling back the covers on Gladstone's online dating habits.
RSVP, one of Australia's top internet dating sites, says 54% of its Gladstone members are male and 46% are female.
About 19% of the region's Oasis web daters reckon they're over-flowing with romance, while movies are their top interest.
Rockhampton, the Fraser Coast and Toowoomba - all on 26% - have the country's highest romance ratings while Warwick, with 13%, and Mackay, with 18%, have the country's lowest romance ratings.
RSVP and Oasis would not reveal how many members they have in the region.
Oasis chief Dave Heysen said finding love in regional areas could be tough but the internet helped fill the void.
"Knowing that there are single people around you within a reasonable distance is very important," he said.
RSVP marketing director Kari Taylor said dating websites and apps made finding like-minded people easier.
"Everybody is looking for love and everybody wants to find people who are really compatible," Ms Taylor said.
"Going online is just a really effective way of meeting more people than you would in a local pub."
A recent Relationships Australia-Victoria University study showed men and women looked for love online for different reasons.
Professor John Zeleznikow said web dating was a time-saver for men, while women were more likely to use the cyber sphere to find their perfect life partner.
Researchers at Victoria University's Centre for Cultural Diversity & Wellbeing discovered the divide during a survey of 120 universitystudents.
"Men appeared to see online dating as a way to skip the pick-up lines and first-date nerves and cut to the chase, whereas women still saw those early stages of dating as a crucial part of the vetting process," Professor Zeleznikow said of the recent research.
"They were interesting in knowing whether they had found the right match before pursuing physical encounters." .
"Men tend to adhere to the theory of quantity, whereas women prefer quality."
Professor Zeleznikow said women felt less safe than men in the dating data sphere.
"Women don't want to be deceived when choosing who to communicate with," he said.
"They want to know their man is authentic, yet many still had doubts."
