Trio from Gladstone club in CQ Capras under-16 squad

THREE Gladstone 15-year- olds who play locally for Past Brothers Rugby League Club, have been selected for the CQ Capras under-16 develop- ment squad.

Jack Breadsell, Kane Langdon and Alex Mather made the team after trials late last year.

The boys said they were looking forward to taking on the Mackay Cutters on Saturday, sure to be an exciting start to the football season.

To prepare for the game, they have been following fitness, stretching and weights programs supplied by the Capras.

They also travel to Rockhampton on Tuesdays and Thursdays for training with the rest of the squad.

This is Jack's fourth season playing rugby league and the halfback said he started playing the sport because of his mates.

This year marks Kane's sixth season playing league and although his official position is second row and lock, he said the main thing is that he gets to go on the field.

"It's a great way to have fun with your mates and keep fit at the same time," he said of the sport.

Both Jack and Kane have played for Port Curtis in rugby league.

All three athletes play in the Past Brothers under-16 and U18 teams.

Alex has played rugby league for four years and since starting has not only represented Queensland but has already been signed to the Melbourne Storm.

He said he was really excited about being selected for the first time in the Capras squad and being able to play against some of his former Queensland team- mates when the Capras travel to Toowoomba later in the year.

The boys said the coaching they had received so far, as part of the Capras squad, had been invaluable for their game.

"The coaches give little insights into what they call the one percenters," Kane said.

Jack continued: "It's just the little stuff you have to do right to win football games."
