Tributes flow for Ipswich rider killed in horror crash

TRIBUTES have flowed for Collingwood Park man Steve "Towball" Fitzsimons who was tragically killed in a horror motorbike crash at the weekend.

Mr Fitzsimons, 43, was killed instantly on Sunday during a crash on the Bruce Hwy near Elimbah, north of Brisbane, while on a ride with club mates.

The father-of-two, and Sons of the Southern Cross Motorcycle Club president, was one of five motorcyclists on a ride from Childers to Brisbane when the crash occurred.

Police said it appeared as the group approached the bridge over Beerburrum Creek, Mr Fitzsimons' motorbike veered right hitting a guard rail.

The other bikes subsequently crashed into Mr Fitzsimons' motorbike resulting in a pile-up.

The south bound section of the highway was closed for nearly five hours throwing traffic into chaos, and resulting in significant delays.

Friends and strangers took to the club's social media page yesterday to pay tribute to Mr Fitzsimons and express their condolences to his family.

"Sincere condolences to his devastated family and club members . Tragic . R.I.P," said Michelle Taylor.

"Heart goes out to the family and club," said Shane Brigg.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
