Gladstone workers in uncertain future as sale 'deadline' nears

UPDATE: 2.25pm: 

IT COULD be the last day the Kurtz Transport workers at the Gladstone depot make deliveries for the 94-year-old company but they are still "flat out".

Today the team are still preparing to make deliveries out in Biloela as the 4pm deadline approaches for companies to bid for Kurtz Transport which went into voluntary administration this month.

One worker said he was "a little worried but as long as I am getting my wage I'll keep working".

He was also friendly, happy and upbeat.

THE FUTURE for workers at the Gladstone depot Kurtz Transport is up in the air as the 4pm deadline for potential buyers of the company nears.

They are still working despite the company going into voluntary administration this month.

The private-owned compay that started in 1922 opened up its Gladstone depot in 2010 and four years later put itself into administration.

It carries parcels and pallets with anything from fridges to alcohol.

The future of owners of the company have until 4pm today to submit bids to administrators Ernst & Young.

The company has 100 employees and depot all over Queensland Dalby, Chinchilla, Wandoan, Rockhampton, Toowoomba, Bundaberg and Roma.

The Courier Mail has reported Kurtz Transport collapsed with millions of dollars of debts to trade creditors, financiers and Australian Tax Officer despite posting turnovers of about $20 million a year.
