Training team goes for big gong

CHRIS Ramsden is helping his team, Rio Tinto Capability Development – Gladstone Hub, get over the line in this year’s Mining Industry Skills Centre (MISC) Training Awards.

The team, which was created in January of 2009, has already achieved great things and now hopes to win a gong for MISC Best Training Practices and Procedures.

Mr Ramsden said his team deserved recognition for the work they did, particularly with in-house training.

Last year the Gladstone Hub’s in-house training provided 415 qualifications, including machinery tickets such as for forklifts, excavators and other machines.

They also service a number of different sites around the Gladstone region including Yarwun and BSL and have facilitated registrations for 540 trainees who are completing their Certificate III.

The final interviews for the team will take place this Tuesday at the BSL training centre, Kalori, in Tannum Sands.
