Traffic light turns confuse Gladstone drivers

THERE are many road rules regarding traffic lights, and for some motorists it can be confusing.

Driver instructor Candita Hamblin said she had noticed that motorists in the Gladstone region did not always understand these rules.

"The first one is turning left at lights and the second is u-turns at traffic lights.

"If there is a left turning lane and a sign saying 'Turn left anytime with care' then you are able to turn left when there is a red light," she said.

"There are even left turning lanes that have their own separate lights that have to be adhered to."

"When doing a u-turn at traffic lights you are allowed to only when there is a sign saying u-turn permitted."

Many motorists think that they can do a u-turn at lights whenever they want but you can't.

Disobeying road rules like these can put motorists at risk, not to mention the fines and demerit points which are as follows:

  • Enter intersection contrary to red traffic light fine $341, demerit points 3.
  • Making a U-turn at an intersection with traffic lights, fine $91, demerit points 2.
  • It is always good to brush up on your road rules which can be done here.
