Traffic box art brightens up our city streets
THE first of the council's Public Art Program were unveiled recently, adding some colour to inner city streets.
Kerry Laurent was among the 40 artists selected to have their art featured on traffic control signal boxes around town.
Her artwork appears outside the St Paul's Anglican Church Hall, on the corner of Limestone and Ellenborough Sts. It features the community's art and culture, paying homage to the nearby art gallery and Ipswich Civic Centre.
The winning artists were selected as part of the Public Art Program where they were asked to "think outside the box for graffiti prevention", vying for $6000 in total cash prizes and having their art displayed in prominent intersections.
The initial 40 traffic control signal boxes will be covered in a vinyl wrap material featuring the artwork in an effort to reduce graffiti in Ipswich.
