Tradies and apprentices under spotlight at CQUni Worldskills

TRADESMEN, apprentices and trainees across central Queensland are set to flaunt their skills when CQUniversity hosts the next round of the WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition.

Registrations are open now for the event, to be held from early August, with nearly 30 vocational skills categories available from automotive, beauty and cookery to landscaping, restaurant service and welding.

Events will also cater to VET students for those completing vocational courses at high school.

It's the first time the competition will be hosted by CQUniversity, which became the region's biggest training provider following its merger with CQ TAFE in 2014.

WorldSkills Australia is open to all occupational tradespeople aged 23 and under.

The top three competitors in each category will go through to the national finals next year.

Competirors will fight for the chance to represent Australia internationally as a Skillaroo in Abu Dhabi in 2017.

Participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
