Tourists survive rollover

TWO South Korean tourists are lucky to be alive after their car rolled over at Benaraby yesterday.

The single-vehicle rollover occurred about five kilometres south of the Tannum Sands turn-off on the Bruce Highway. The car ended up about 20 metres off the road in thick scrub.

The two women, aged 30 and 26, left Rockhampton around 9am yesterday heading south in a Ford Falcon sedan. The accident happened about 10.30am.

“The driver had attempted to overtake a long line of traffic, including a semi-trailer, two cars and a car towing a caravan,” Sergeant John Myers of Tannum Sands police said.

“As they were approaching the lead car another car appeared in the opposite direction,” he said.

The driver then swerved and lost control of her vehicle, veering to the right and rolling.

The two women were partially trapped in the vehicle.

The driver suffered a fractured elbow and the passenger had minor injuries.

Both women were taken to Gladstone Hospital.
