Tour finds Gladstone, surrounds, has much to offer
THERE'S more to the Southern Great Barrier Reef region than beautiful island getaways, coral, colourful fish and underwater adventures.
And there's also a lot more than just the Gladstone Region.
A group of 30 community leaders from Bundaberg, Gladstone and Capricornia toured the regions and found mainland areas had a huge amount to offer many were not aware of, as well as the magic of the reef.
The Destination Leaders Program, organised and hosted by Tourism and Events Queensland, saw the group travel through the three regions, taking in many spectacular tourism and food options.
The aim was to build the Southern Great Barrier Reef brand as a destination in its own right so communities could work collectively to attract more tourists.
Group members travelled by rail from Rockhampton to Bundaberg and then made their way back through the regions by bus over the course of three days.
