Top referee award for trainer with no plans of slowing down

JEFFREY Hebbard describes himself as a man of few words, and was left speechless when he was recognised as the Gladstone District Colin and Heather Cogill Perpetual Trophy Referees Person of the Year.

Mr Hebbard's dedication to the sport of rugby league, spanning the past 40 years, is about sharing his passion and knowledge with younger generations.

"I just love the sport," he said.

"It's something I look forward to every Saturday, and to me its just about helping the juniors become better players and better referees."

ALP candidate for Flynn Chris Trevor presented the award to Mr Hebbard at the weekend.

Mr Hebbard said there were no plans of slowing down.

"It was a good feeling to receive the award, but there are a lot of young referees I'm still trying to help. I'm not ready to slow down at this stage" he said.

The award will be engraved to honour Mr Hebbard's contribution to the sport, before it is handed back to the Junior League Association next year.
