Toowoomba's 10 most frustrating traffic lights

WHILE Toowoomba is renowned for bad drivers, it is also home to some of the most frustrating sets of traffic lights known to motorists. Here is our top 10.

1. Margaret St and Ruthven St.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Any way you're going, you're not going to get there fast. This is possibly the most annoying intersection in Toowoomba. You know traffic lights are bad when council spends $45 million on a bypass just to help people avoid them.

2. West and Alderley Sts

"A NIGHTMARE, an absolute disgrace". That's how motorists describe this intersection. Booming population growth in the suburbs and new right-turn arrows have turned this intersection into a gridlock.

3. James and Hume Sts

THIS intersection has consistently rated as of the most dangerous places to drive in Toowoomba. Crossing a national highway can be dangerous, but some frustrated motorists shoot through even if the light is orange.

Red means stop.
Red means stop.

4. Herries and Neil Sts

CROSSING over Herries St along Neil St has turned into a long and exhausting nightmare after recent changes to the timing of these traffic lights. Don't be surprised if you see pedestrians running the gauntlet before the crossing lights too green.

5. James St and Anzac Ave

THESE traffic lights manage traffic of two national highways, the Gore and Warrego so it's no surprise that you're in for a wait. You'll be lucky to get through on the first cycle during peak hour.

6. Tor St and Hursley Rd

YOU'VE listened to five HOT FM tracks while waiting to cross Anzac Ave. You finally made it past the Maccas lights. Now you have to wait for the Hursley Rd lights to change #frustrating.

7. James St and Clifford Gardens entry

JUST when you think you've escaped the hustle and bustle of James St, the traffic lights at this small intersection will keep you waiting for a very long time. And no one ever seems to be coming out of Clifford Gardens.

8. West and Steven Sts

EVEN Toowoomba's ambulance drivers avoid this intersection because of the dangers it presents. And then there are the frustrations with waiting for the lights to change. These were highlighted in a dashcam video sent to The Chronicle from a less-than-impressed motorist:

9. Anzac Ave and Alderely St

YOU'RE lucky it if you make it through these lights alive! Cattle trucks have been known to roar through the red lights, as this video shows:

10. Bridge St and Ruthven St

THERE are so many people living in Highfields now that Ruthven St is packed. Add a train line into the mix and you know there'll be delays. You'll need the patience of a saint to get through these lights.
