Toowoomba woman on child sex charges

UNUSUAL charges against a Toowoomba woman have been mentioned before the city's Magistrates Court.

The 33-year-old woman is charged with one count each of unlawful carnal knowledge of a boy under 16 (and attempts) as a guardian or carer, and indecent treatment of a child under 16 (indecent film etc.) lineal descendent, guardian or carer, as the charges read on court documents.

The accused, who is not named due to the nature of the charges, has been remanded in custody and was not required in court when her matters were briefly mentioned yesterday.

She has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to the charges.

Solicitor Sarah Campbell (David Burns Lawyers) represented the defendant and sought an adjournment.

No details of the case were aired in court but such charges can arise from allegations that the accused person permitted acts against a child in their care.

Magistrate Catherine Pirie adjourned the case for mention next month.
