Toowoomba puts bats out for Phillip Hughes
TOOWOOMBA residents have joined a global campaign paying tribute to Australian cricket Phillip Hughes.
Hughes died in a Sydney hospital on Thursday of injuries sustained when felled by a bouncer at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Yesterday, Sydney father Paul Taylor placed his cricket bat at his front door as a mark of respect and tweeted a photo with the hashtag #putoutyourbats.
The tribute has since gone global, with fans from Toowoomba to London joining in.
Graham Strang put cricket bats out the front of his workplace Hip Pocket Workwear and posted a photo on The Chronicle's Facebook page.
"Thoughts to Phillip and his family, the bats are out the front of our shop," he wrote.
Adeke Allan posted a photo with the message "RIP Phillip Hughes. Our hearts are broken for your family and mates".
International athletes and celebrities such as Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and One Direction's Harry Styles have also paid their respects via social media.
