Toowoomba dad has brain surgery as GoFundMe reaches $87k
TOOWOOMBA man Shaun McCarthy is on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery for a brain tumour last Tuesday.
A GoFundMe page, set up by his long time friend Malcolm Campbell, has raised more than $87,000 in two weeks for the father of two.
"After having surgery to remove the 60mm tumour from his brain on Tuesday in Brisbane, Shaun has been recovering quite well with minimal issues," Mr Campbell said in a post to the GoFundMe page.
"As of (8pm on Saturday), we have fundraised $86,869 for our mate Shaun and his beautiful family - simply outstanding."
Mr Campbell said Shaun had now returned home to his family.
"Shaun and Stacey really need time to themselves to recover physically and mentally from this immense challenge," he said,
"This is the biggest obstacle the McCarthy family have ever faced, they'll need time to process it all and heal.
"Shaun, Stacey and the boys look forward to welcoming family and friends back into their home in the coming weeks and months ahead."
Shaun's wife Stacey thanked the community for their support.
"Thank you to all the local Toowoomba businesses who have offered to help and support our family business Resident Restorations while Shaun can't be there and for our amazing worker Darren for stepping up and running the business in Shaun's absence," Mrs McCarthy wrote in a post to the page.
"(It was the) longest day of my life, thanks everyone for helping me through."
