Toolooa IGA customers lead the way in appeal support
TOOLOOA St IGA's window is full of wish cards, all to raise money to help babies such as Oliver Que in the Mater Little Miracles Easter Appeal.
Members of the public have been generous in buying tokens at IGA and Bendigo Bank in Gladstone.
The tokens will help fund research projects, equipment and patient support programs for seriously ill babies and their families treated at Mater.
Local Gladstone parents Carmel and Glen Que were heartbroken when they were told by staff at the Mater Mothers' Hospital they may not take home their son, Oliver.
Before his birth in January 2014, Oliver suffered from hydrops fetalis, a potentially fatal condition that results in excess fluid on the organs.
A healthy one-year-old now, Mrs Que said she was thankful for the Mater Little Miracles' support during the difficult time.
"You don't realise how much you need the support until you get there," she said.
"We donate ourselves every month because we feel like we should give something back."
Paul Reis, director of business development at the Mater Foundation, said the IGA on Tooloa St was one of the best stores he had seen.
"I am going through all the IGAs on the coast to launch the appeal," he said.
"We have 400 coupons at the IGA on Tooloa St. The local people here have been fantastic and it is one of the front running stores."
If you would like to donate, pop in to IGA at Sunvalley or Tooloa St and fill out a token form for $2.
Donations can be made until the end of June.
The wish cards will be given to patients and families at the end of the appeal.
