FORMER Prime Minister Kevin Rudd set the bar pretty high when he was caught on film eating his own ear wax, but now Tony Abbott has had a crack at the title by crunching into a raw onion on camera.

And while eating an onion, skin and all, may not reach the lofty heights of gross-ness attained by Kevin07, it's still an impressive feat and has sent social media into a spin - with many people appearing unsure whether to be appalled or impressed.

What's worse - eating a raw onion, skin and all, or tasting your own ear wax?

And while most of us would balk at the idea of eating an onion like that, Mr Abbott appears to have no issue with it - crunching through it in much the same way anybody else would eat an apple.
