Tinny boat racing on the cards
TINNY boat racing could become a reality in the Gladstone region with early stages being put in place to have regularly boat races here.
Central Queensland organiser Hadley Roberts said the sport is relatively cheap and the more people who will commit to the sport, then the cheaper it will be for them.
"Some basics about the racing and that are the tinny will have to fit a certain criteria and be operated by two racers," Roberts said.
"A race hull and brand new 30 horsepower engine can be supplied for approximately $4600 and for two people is a mere $2300 and even cheaper for larger teams.
"All of these prices will depend on interest and the more people willing to give it a go the cheaper.
"This price makes this quite a cheap on the water sport."
The CQ QLD racing would coincide with the sport in the southern states where regular events are staged.
"We are just putting the feelers out to generate interest and ideally, we'd like to have a race every six weeks and include Bundaberg, Rockhampton and Yeppoon, but that depends how it takes off," Roberts said.
"If people interested can contact me they can contact me on 0429417297 and there is a Facebook page called Qld Tinny Racing."
