Tidy up yard and prepare for fire season

IT'S that time of the year again.

In fact it's a bit early this year.

It's the fire season we're talking about.

And it's imperative each and every one of us is aware of the extreme danger fire in central Queensland can be.

It's just a year or so ago that we saw a scrub fire run seriously close to dwellings alongside Kirkwood Rd, and it was around the same time that Gecko Valley Winery was the victim, with Tony and Coleen McCray's total grape crop destroyed.

And in February we saw some serious damage to areas close to Gladstone.

We're not immune. Not any one of us. If the fire hits and you are not prepared, you could lose your home, your health.

The message is clear - tidy up and make sure there is nothing near your home that can catch fire if one happens to head your way.

Make sure you have an escape plan and stick to it.

This season will be a long one, so now's the time to get ready - not in a few months time.
