Three hurt in Dawson Hwy pile-up

A TYPICAL Monday afternoon commute yesterday descended into havoc after a three-car pile-up on the Dawson Hwy.

The crash, around 4.45pm about 2km from the Calliope Crossroads, saw cars banked up as emergency services helped the four vehicle occupants.

Three occupants, including a mother and child, were transported to Gladstone Base Hospital. They were each reported to be in a serious condition.

Wreckage continued to delay traffic in both directions to and from Calliope, with all three vehicles requiring towing.

It is believed the accident was caused when a four-wheel drive, driven by a p-plater, allegedly collided with two sedans.

Traffic was banked up in both directions during peak hour, with diversions taking motorists along Weeroona Rd.
