FRIDAY

Playtime in the Park

GAPDL Communities for Children is hosting Playtime in the Park with face painting, arts, story time, toddler gym, water play, books, bubbles, playdough and more.

Playtime in the Park is held in a different fun location, and everyone is invited to play and learn about children's services available in the Gladstone region.

Friday's event will celebrate Book Week and Seniors Week, so take along the grandparents and encourage kids to dress as their favourite book character.

Those attending should take morning tea, hat and water. The session will be held at the park in Herbertson St, Gladstone, from 10am to noon.

Action-packed night for youth

LIFESTYLE Church will host its next Flipside event at the Lifestyle Centre, 83 Sun Valley Rd, Kin Kora from 7-9pm.

The event will be themed "The Rat Race" and includes action-packed games and competitions for students in Year 7-12.

Movie session for parents and kids

MUMS, dads and bubs are invited to come along to the Gladstone cinemas to attend a child-friendly event at 9.30am.

Ticket are $8 or $20 for Gold room. The lights will be left on and dimmed and the sound is lowered  Visit the website for more information. 

Exhibition launch

EVER Present is an exhibition of works by unknown 19th century photographers alongside famous images by recognised masters of the 20th century.

To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, Sally Foster, assistant curator of international art at the Gallery of Modern Art will give comprehensive floor talk, followed by the official launch at 5.30pm.

Light refreshments will be served and RSVPs are required.

The exhibition will run for nine weeks at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery, corner of Goondoon and Bramston Sts.

Fundraising dinner for rescue service

THE Gladstone District Dirt Riders Club is hosting a fundraising dinner for the Capricorn Rescue Helicopter and Racesafe.

Held at the Grand Hotel from 6pm, there will be auctions, raffles, giveaways and lucky door prizes as well as food and drinks.

Tickets are $120.

Indie band plays Gladstone and Agnes

GOLD Coast band Kiara Jack and the Jills are bringing their indie, world contemporary sound to the Gladstone region this weekend.

The four-piece band led by Kiara Jack on vocals, piano, blues harp and the djembe will be playing at the Rocky Glen Hotel in Gladstone on Friday night and the Agnes Water Tavern on Saturday night, from 8pm.

The band has been together for about three years and has gathered a lot of momentum since releasing their latest album Shards of Glass.

Stardust Circus is in town

THE Stardust Circus kicks off its Gladstone performance at 7pm tonight, and is in town until Sunday, August 31.

Shows will be held on Saturday at 2pm and 6pm, and on Sunday at 11am and 2pm.

Stardust is Australia's largest animal circus. Performances are being held at the Gladstone Showground.

SATURDAY

Great Yarwun Valley Rally

JOIN in an afternoon of family fun, chasing clues and rallying around the local area to help raise funds for the Yarwun State School to modernise and update its library.

The event will start at CQ University on Bryan Jordan Drive at 1pm and will conclude at Yarwun State School with a family fun event.

Pizza, prizes, raffles, carnival games, barbecue and bar, rides, facepainting, glow sticks, market stalls, fruit ice cup and popcorn will all be available, along with a performance by local band Big Deal.

Tickets are $25 and are available from Gladstone Feedbarn, Yarwun Store or Yarwun State School.

Music in the Park

TANNUM Blue is hosting a free community event, Music in the Park, featuring music from The Bucketlist.

Music in the Park will be held from 1pm to 4pm and food will be available to purchase.

Those attending should take their own picnic blankets or chairs, and head to the corner of Tannum Sands and Dahl Rds, Tannum Sands.

Discovery Coast Wedding and Formal Expo

THE Beach Break Bar is hosting the Discovery Coast's inaugural wedding event from 10am to 3pm.

Local wedding service providers and unique business will be showcasing their products and services in one of Australia's most beautiful wedding destinations - Agnes Water & 1770.

Friends of Bindaree Markets

THE Friends of Bindaree Garage Sale is a popular market event at Boyne Island run monthly by Bindaree Lodge Aged Care Facility.

You can find lots of bargains on second hand clothing, manchester, books, footwear, toys, furniture and much more.

The markets run from 7am to noon at 1 Beacon Ave, Boyne Island.

20th annual Golding Showcase

GLADSTONE Regional Art Gallery and Museum is hosting the Golding Showcase, a Port Curtis Callide Valley youth art exhibition.

Works in all media by local high school students aged 15-18 will be on display for a month, with the official opening on Tuesday.

The gallery at the corner of Goondoon and Bramston Sts is open from 10am to 5pm.

Spend a morning with acoustic tunes

JHAM Bar Gladstone will host Acoustic JHAMS, a morning of music by local artists each Saturday from 9am-noon.

Sit and have a coffee and watch the world go by while enjoying music by Animal Throwdown, White Room and Rob (Country) Hopkins at JHAM Bar, 117 Toolooa St, Gladstone.

Disney princess movie festival

THE Disney princess movie festival continues at Gladstone Cinemas this weekend.

Princess fans can join Aurora, Pocahontas, Ariel, Snow White and Belle as they come to the big screen this month.

This weekend Snow White will screen on Saturday and Sunday.

Library Square Markets

HELD in the heart of Gladstone's Central Business District at Library Square, Gladstone residents and visitors can purchase fresh produce, handmade arts and crafts and much more.

When you're done at the markets, there are a number of restaurants and cafes in the area to tempt your tastebuds.

The markets run from 7am to noon.

Get fit with Parkrun

STOCKLAND Gladstone and Parkrun Australia faciliate a unique, community run program that provides free weekly timed 5km running events for people of all ages and abilities every Saturday morning from 7am - 8am at Lions Park.

SUNDAY

Sunday Coffee Cruise

TAKE a cruise around the Gladstone harbour and surrounding island every Sunday and Wednesday on a a Curtis Ferry Services Coffee Cruise.

Enjoy a two-hour cruise with morning tea and commentary on the Gladstone region, while keeping an eye out for turtles, dolphins and dugongs.

Cruises are held 11am-1pm. Bookings are essential and can be made through the Gladstone Visitor Information Centre.

Passengers must collect their ticket from the Information Centre at 72 Bryan Jordan Drive) before departure, and ensure they arrive at Curtis Ferry Services Terminal by 10.45am.

If the Information Centre is closed, tickets and payments can be made from the departure point.

The Sunday Coffee Cruise will run until September 28.

Tickets cost $24 adults, $22 concession and $16 children aged 7-16.

Digital art workshop

A DIGITAL art workshop suitable for beginners will be held at The Community Hub, 5 Buller St, Gladstone, from 10am to 2.30pm.

The workshop will focus on the creation of a series of digital landscapes using photos, found images and text.

Variety concert for seniors

THE annual Variety Concert will be held at the New Apostolic Church, 161 Sun Valley Rd, Gladstone on Sunday.

The event is for the senior citizens of Gladstone. It will start at 1pm.

A gold coin donation is required and there will be raffles, door prizes and refreshments.

Swimming club sign-on

A SIGN-ON day will be held for Wests Swimming Club from 9-11am at the John Dahl Pool, opposite the duck ponds.

New members are welcome and names will be taken for junior, intermediate and state squads.

THE Discovery Coast Markets are held on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, and every Sunday during school holidays, at the SES Grounds on Captain Cook Dr between Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.

Come and browse the arts and crafts, bric-a-brac and fresh produce available for purchase.

The markets are open from 8am until noon.

Sunday session at Yachties

GLADSTONE Yacht Club will have a Sunday session in Yachties Beer Garden with live music from 2pm.

There will be great drink specials and a great atmosphere to wind-down your weekend.

The Sunday session runs until 6pm.
